Word of Mouth

John 1.1
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God.”

Who is the Word?

Jesus Christ

V14 “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten, full of grace and truth.

Jesus, the Son of God, took on human form and John says we saw Him, we saw Him in His glory as God, flowing with unearned kindness and truth.

The New Testament was first written in Greek.  The Greek translation of ‘Word’ is logos.

Logos means word.  It can be translated as word, message or action that reveals a message.

God is so big we cannot truly comprehend all of God.

He is omniscient, that means all knowing.

He is omnipresent, meaning He is everywhere at every moment.

He is omnipotent, meaning all powerful.

No human can fully understand God, so God as Son, became man.

Jesus is the full revelation of God to man,

As much of God as we are supposed to understand

Jesus is the Word of God

Jesus is the message of God

Jesus is the action of God

In Genesis 1.1 “God said, let there be Light..” Jesus was the Word,

Hebrews 1.2 (NIRV)
“But in these last days, he has spoken to us through his Son. He is the one whom God appointed to receive all things. God also made everything through him.”

Colossians 1.15-16 says that Jesus is
“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.”

* Jesus was created to be the Word, that spoke creation into being.  He is the Word of God that holds all things together.

Jesus said in John 14.6 that He is the message of God

He told Philip in John 14.9 “He who has seen Me has seen the Father”

Jesus is the image of God in a physical manifestation.

He created us,
He became flesh,
He died for us,
He redeemed us.
He is the action of God for us.

All that God desires for us to understand about God is in Him

All that God desires for us to understand about God is in the Bible.

We call it the Word of God; the Logos, the full revelation of God to man.

All that we need to live complete lives here and to enter into His rest, is in Him.

There is another word in the Greek translated as ‘word’ which is rhema.

Rhema means a specific word or utterance.  To utter often implies to speak a specific word to someone.

Have you ever read the Bible and had a verse just jump out at you?  That is a rhema.

Have you ever had a verse come back to you just at the moment you needed it to?

You’re in trouble and you remember a verse that speaks to the situation.  That is a rhema

A Rhema is when the Lord gives you understanding of a specific verse or verses that changes you more into His likeness.  The power of God is released by this process of receiving the rhema from God.

It fuels the life of God in your walk

You can own the greatest car ever built, but if you have no fuel, it’s not going to get you anywhere.

In Matthew 4.4  Jesus said Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God”

The Greek interpretation of “every word” here is Rhema

Jesus said every word, so shouldn't they have used ‘Logos’ rather than ‘Rhema?’

No

Because if you have the Logos memorized in its entirety, that is not enough.  You could memorize the whole Bible and still go to hell (though I imagine that would be unlikely.)

The devil knows the Word of God better than any human.

God formed man from the dust of the earth
but he had no life until God breathed life into Him!

You need the rhema, you need God to breathe life into His Word.

You need the specific utterance from God for the truth to produce life, and change in you.

It’s why so many people walk around powerless. They believe,

they may be real Christians

but they live like spiritual papers because

1. they don't know the Bible

and
2. Even the little they might know they don't hold onto long enough to allow the Lord to breathe life into it.

John 3.6
“That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”

When you hear the Word of God you may have a moment of spiritual witness that it is true.

1 Corinthians 2.14
says the natural man can’t understand the spiritual things of God.

But if that truth is not kept and guarded then you may remember it in your mind, but the mind is carnal, made of the same stuff as the dust of the earth and even understanding the truth of God in your mind has no power of the Spirit of God or the spirit of man

Because that which is flesh is flesh; it can’t be spiritually beneficial.

Luke 8.5 Jesus tells a parable about the Word as it relates to salvation:
““A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell by the wayside; and it was trampled down, and the birds of the air devoured it.”

The interpretation Jesus gave to His apostles”:

Luke 8.11-12
““Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. 12 Those by the wayside are the ones who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.”

We, human beings are on our own are powerless against the enemies of God.  The devil fears no man or woman

apart from the power of God.

The power of God within us is The indwelling Holy Spirit, the Word, the rhemas of God,

the church, other believers wanting to serve God alongside you.

This makes you a threat to the kingdom of darkness

This is what we’ll be rewarded for in heaven

This is how spiritual gifts from God are realized and developed.

Read the Word of God

Meditate on it.

When you believe God has spoken a Rhema to you, write it down.

Meditate on that.

Memorize it.

It will change your life.

Matthew 25.14-28
“For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them. 15 And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey. 16 Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents. 17 And likewise he who had received two gained two more also. 18 But he who had received one went and dug in the ground, and hid his lord’s money. 19 After a long time the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them.
20 “So he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, ‘Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them.’ 21 His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ 22 He also who had received two talents came and said, ‘Lord, you delivered to me two talents; look, I have gained two more talents besides them.’ 23 His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’
24 “Then he who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25 And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours.’
26 “But his lord answered and said to him, ‘You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed. 27 So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest. 28 Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents.

When you stand before Jesus, you will give an account of how you used His gifts to you.

At that moment your place in eternity will already be established.

It’s not easy but it’s simple

Believe God

Focus on Jesus, the Logos

Read the Logos

Repent often

Meditate on the Rhemas, when God utters His truth to you.

Hold onto to it

Memorize it

Rehearse the truth of it.

Claim it and step out in faith on it.

This is the question will you remember this message a week from today?

Will it be stored, guarded, a meditation in your spirit or just some understanding in your mind?
