Important timely message for American Christians

The Grace and Truth Project was spawned during a gathering of about 50 international evangelical Christian leaders who were concerned about the increasing alienation between the Christians and Muslims. To counter this trend, they composed a statement on how followers of Jesus should relate to Muslims. Grace and Truth: Toward Christ-like Relationships with Muslims includes a detailed exposition and an abridged affirmation for readers to sign.

Grace and Truth is a consensus document. As such it uses language and emphasizes themes that bridge the spectrum of evangelical thinking. For some, it may feel too conservative (with too much emphasis on "truth"). For others, it may feel too affirming (with too much emphasis on "grace"). The most important thing for us is to encourage evangelicals to address these issues biblically.

Jesus calls his followers to experience and live out the love of God, made accessible to all people through Christ. This includes showing God's love to all people, including those of ethnicities and worldviews different from our own. The gospel reveals that the Word became flesh in Christ and dwelt among us "full of grace and truth." In that spirit, we as his followers seek to show grace and truth to all people, as manifestations of God's love.

The Grace and Truth Project helps churches live with their Muslim neighbors in a way that values faithfulness to the gospel of peace and friendship with men and women of peace.
