Gal 6: 15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation.
I am a new creation in Christ Jesus! Praise God, no longer in bondage to this world system.
2 Cor 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
When Jesus said “It is Finished in John 19:30, it is believed this was the proclamation of the finished work that led to our being redeemed by God, reconciled to Him and His work on the cross paid my debt of sin in the Holy eyes of Almighty God.
Redemption
Reconciliation
Propitiation
All the work that was necessary has been finished by the Son of God, Jesus!
Yet in most Christians’ lives the work appears appears very unfinished. Only in the most self righteous, repressed circles will you find people who appear to live sin-free lives, and we all know that the thought life must also be sin-free to satisfy the perfect holiness of God. Most churches are filled with problems based in sin. Are these believers not really believers?
Paul wrote to these true believers of Galatia
Gal 4:19 My little children, for whom I labor in birth again until Christ is formed in you,
And also
Gal 5: 5 For we through the Spirit eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.
It appears there are some steps still necessary in the lives of believers.
Christ is our holiness, righteousness, sanctification 1Cor. 1:30
Then why 2 Cor 6:17
Therefore “ Come out from among them
And be separate, says the Lord.
Do not touch what is unclean,
And I will receive you.”
18 “ I will be a Father to you,
And you shall be My sons and daughters,
Says the LORD Almighty.”
It’s like a paycheck you didn’t earn; you must still cash the thing before it will do you any good. We must “cash in” our gift of faith to believe in the finished work so we can live free from the bondage of sin. Not perfect, but always believing and being converted continually by the Holy Spirit as we wait in earnestness for His coming!
Eph 4: 17 This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, 18 having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; 19 who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
20 But you have not so learned Christ, 21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22 that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.
It’s an act of our will based on our faith in Christ’s work, His indwelling Spirit, and His power to accomplish what He has promised (Rom 8:28-30; Heb 12:2).
