Vision

2 Tim 2:8 “Remember that Jesus Christ, of the seed of David, was raised from the dead according to my gospel, 9 for which I suffer trouble as an evildoer, even to the point of chains; but the word of God is not chained. 10 Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.”

When God breaks your heart for the lost around you nothing else seems quite so important. Knowing hardship takes a backseat to the eternal matters at hand. There’s urgency for those who are suffering, but don’t know why and searching, but don’t know what for.

Verse 11” This is a faithful saying:
For if we died with Him,
We shall also live with Him.
12 If we endure,
We shall also reign with Him.
If we deny Him,
He also will deny us.
13 If we are faithless,
He remains faithful;
He cannot deny Himself
.”

Notice that the word “died” is in the past tense. If we died with Jesus 2,000 years ago, on the cross, we will live with Him for all eternity future. But here is a precious promise. If we endure we shall reign with Him! How can we conceive of such a great promise?

1 Corinthians 2: 9 “But as it is written:
“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.

I wonder if the next statement in 1 Timothy, “if we deny Him, He also will deny us” means something more temporal. If we deny Him His rightful place in our lives today, will He deny us the life we should be experiencing here in time?

It’s clear by the last line of this verse, we cannot be denied by Him in eternity, because He cannot deny the incorruptible seed He has planted in us; that is, Himself!

1 Peter 1: 23 “Having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever,”
