Hungry or Satisfied?

The Lord instructed Moses to teach the people of Israel a song.

Deuteronomy 31: 19 “Now therefore, write down this song for yourselves, and teach it to the children of Israel; put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for Me against the children of Israel. 20 When I have brought them to the land flowing with milk and honey, of which I swore to their fathers, and they have eaten and filled themselves and grown fat, then they will turn to other gods and serve them; and they will provoke Me and break My covenant. 21 Then it shall be, when many evils and troubles have come upon them, that this song will testify against them as a witness; for it will not be forgotten in the mouths of their descendants, for I know the inclination of their behavior today, even before I have brought them to the land of which I swore to give them.”

God knew the people would stray from His commands, and told Moses so before they entered into the land flowing with milk and honey. The Lord instructed Moses to teach it to them, that they might be reminded that He was not absent, nor was He too weak to deliver them from the trouble that would come.

Think about the love and graciousness of God; when He made the promise to Abraham, God knew the Israelites would betray Him. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. Grace gives blessings to the ungrateful, undeserving recipients. Grace enables us to be ranked as worthy, when we have done nothing worthy of rank. Grace leads us to the forgiveness and sanctification of God, when He knows we’ll wander back into sin.

Perhaps this is why Jesus said in Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. “

Only on His righteousness do we have a chance of living this walk by faith. I am not increasing my righteousness. The person of Tim remains “not guilty” only because of the blood of the Lamb. When I behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, I become a vessel of His righteousness.
I do it by faith
I cannot maintain a righteous life any better than I can find the kingdom of God; without complete reliance on Him.

That’s why Paul said in 2 Cor 10:12, he could revel in his weakness, because he knew this was the perfect condition to seek God’s kingdom and His righteousness; in complete dependence upon the Rock of our Salvation, Jesus Christ.

His righteousness is my only hope, just as His sacrifice on the cross is my hope. Only He can provide what’s necessary for my life. Only when I abide in Him can I live as my heart longs to. Blessed are they that hunger and thirst for righteousness; not blessed are they that live righteous; He knew whom He was talking about.
