Broken is Fixable

Ezekiel 13:33 Thus says the Lord GOD: “Woe to the foolish prophets, who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing! 4 O Israel, your prophets are like foxes in the deserts. 5 You have not gone up into the gaps to build a wall for the house of Israel to stand in battle on the day of the LORD. 6 They have envisioned futility and false divination, saying, ‘Thus says the LORD!’ But the LORD has not sent them; yet they hope that the word may be confirmed......13 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: “I will cause a stormy wind to break forth in My fury; and there shall be a flooding rain in My anger, and great hailstones in fury to consume it. 14 So I will break down the wall you have plastered with untempered mortar, and bring it down to the ground, so that its foundation will be uncovered; it will fall, and you shall be consumed in the midst of it. Then you shall know that I am the LORD

When first reading these scriptures I imagined God a severe stern judge who waited only to punish us for the ways we fall short of His righteousness. Now I see even these are acts of love. We human beings can compromise like nobody’s business. Even the biggest control freaks can ignore gross errors where they are fearful, or complacent.

God says in His anger and fury he will break down the walls built in human’s compromise with their own strength. People who speak on behalf of God without His leading and then hope God will go along and confirm them? If God did not break down the walls we would never get to know our Father. When everything around us is destroyed, our vision becomes clearer about who God is and who we are in His plan.

Matthew 7: 24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”

Most, if not all of us would be living in the swamp if the Lord, in His graciousness, did not send the rain, flood and winds. God is Love, so even in His sternest dealings with His people, they must be based in love.
