Court Has Been Adjourned

At the end of Romans Chapter 1, Paul has just described the incredible wickedness of the reprobate, those who have seared their conscience and are beyond hope for hearing the truth. He then addresses all the human race, including believers:

Romans 2: 1 Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whoever you are who judge, for in whatever you judge another you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things.
John 3:17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

Matthew 7; 1 “Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.

The word, Judge in Matthew 7:1 is the same word as condemn is in John 3:17. Try reading Matt 7:1 and John 3:17 with both condemn and judge in each other’s places.

Jesus said in, John8:15, “You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one.”

1 Corinthians 6 1-2
1 Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unrighteous, and not before the saints? 2 Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world will be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters?

verse7 Now therefore, it is already an utter failure for you that you go to law against one another. Why do you not rather accept wrong? Why do you not rather let yourselves be cheated? 8 No, you yourselves do wrong and cheat, and you do these things to your brethren! 9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals,[a] nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

We have been made for everlasting life, but most of our works are only temporal. That is why the wood hay and stubble of our lives will be burned up (1 Cor 3:15). The eternal works are done in the power of the indwelling Spirit of God. The difference is earthly matters versus the eternal; we are to judge the actions, but not the person.

1 Corinthians 2: 2 For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

We see Jesus in one another, but we don’t turn a blind eye to sin. We see the lost made in the image of our God, loved, but deceived by the god of this world (2 Cor 4:4) and we love them while reviling their sin.

We’ll continue with this next time
