Hope

The only untainted goodness that I possess is the Holy Spirit. As I yield to Him and believe the life of His word in me, I will reflect the life and goodness of God.

Romans 8:18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 19 For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; 21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now. 23 Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.

Here Paul explains that because we live in this fallen world all creation suffers in this corrupt state of sin and death, until our Savior returns to ultimately redeem all that belongs to Him (that includes us!!). We groan within ourselves, living in bodies that age and fall ill, but more than that, we live in bodies made of dust that cling to this earth. The bodies our souls live in are not subject to the law of God.

Romans 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be

We groan as if we were in labor pains, giving birth to the new creation Christ claims we are becoming. While we experience the dying of the body, made of the stuff of the world, our carnal minds yearn to have all the world has to offer.

That glorious liberty as a child of God that is spoken of , may be enjoyed here on earth for moments of time, but just as the world and our physical bodies continue to decay, we wait in hope of Jesus Christ; “of Him who subjected it in hope”.

This hope is not like a wish, but an earnest expectation, like a paycheck, or the sun’s warmth returning tomorrow. We wait for our Lord to return as victor over the law of sin and death, to be made like Him, and that is the hope we can count on.
